Asoka was a great and enlightened ruler from the Mauryan Empire and ruled India from 273 B.C.E to 232 B.C.E. The Mauryan Empire had many of India’s greatest rulers putting a lot of weight on Asoka’s shoulders but he lived up to the presumptions. Having conquered Kalinga Asoka felt that it would weigh heavily on his mind and went to seek enlightenment from a guru and went on to make India beautiful. He had proven to be an enlightened ruler throughout his ruling by seeking a guru and becoming a spiritual leader, creating edicts to protect the poor, and acting on his kingdom’s requests.
